Laira Wharf
ABOVE: An former Royal Navy submarine, HMS Rorqual (pennant S02), is in the process of being scrapped as 37299 passes Laira Wharf and Davies & Cann breaker's yard with a Weedkilling train on 1st May 1982. Incidently, HMS Rorqual was a Porpoise class diesel-electric submarine that was launched in 1956 at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Named after the Rorqual whale, she arrived at Laira breaker's yard on 5th May 1977.
